Crafting

Set-Up

Do you want to get into crafting? Here is what you will need to do.

1)  First, get at least 1 (one) character to level 6.

2)  Get your character certified in all 7 (yes there are 7) crafting disciplines

  • Speak to Millenith in one of the following locations to be certified in Blacksmithing, Woodworking, and Clothier: Volkel Guard in Auridon, Daggerfall in Glenumbra, Davon's Watch in Stonefalls, Vivec City in Vvardenfell, Alinor in Summerset, Rimmen in Northern Elsweyr, Leyawiin in Blackwood.

  • Speak to Danel Telleno in one of the following locations to be certified in Enchanting, Alchemy, and Provisioning: Volkel Guard in Auridon, Daggerfall in Glenumbra, ?? in Stonefalls, Vivec City in Vvardenfell, Alinor in Summerset, Rimmen in Northern Elsweyr, Leyawiin in Blackwood.

  • Speak to Falarian in Alinor to be certified in Jewelcrafting (you will need the Summerset Chapter to do the writs for this line)

3)  Start collecting Alchemy Formulas, Clothing Patterns, Enchanting Praxis, Jewelry Sketches, Provisioning Designs, and

Woodworking Blueprints for furniture. You will also need to collect Crafting Motifs for crafting Armor & Weapons as well

as Provisioning Recipes for crafting Food & Drink.

  • Use these only with your Designated Main Crafter (or perhaps Crafter for that Discipline) to expand your ability to craft various items within the game.

4)  Start collecting Alchemy Formulas, Clothing Patterns, Enchanting Praxis, Jewelry Sketches, Provisioning Designs, and

Woodworking Blueprints for furniture. You will also need to collect Crafting Motifs for crafting Armor & Weapons as well

as Provisioning Recipes for crafting Food & Drink.

The next few steps will take quite a while to complete so work them in conjunction with each other.  In fact, it is highly recommended that you start researching traits as soon as possible as it can take up to a year (or even longer) to research all of them.

5)  Max out the skill lines for each of the crafting skills and raise the following skills to their max level.

  • Alchemy: Solvent Proficiency (8)

  • Blacksmithing: Metalworking (10)

  • Clothing: Tailoring (10)

  • Enchanting: Potency Improvement (10)

  • Jewelry: Engraver (5)

  • Provisioning: Recipe Improvement (6)

  • Woodworking: Woodworking (10)

6) You will also want to max out these skills:

  • Alchemy: Chemistry (3), Laboratory Use (3)

  • Blacksmithing: Temper Expertise (3)
  • Clothing: Tanning Expertise (3)

  • Enchanting: Aspect Improvement(4), Runestone Extraction (3)

  • Jewelry: Platings Expertise (3)

  • Provisioning: Recipe Quality (6), Chef (3), Brewer (3)

  • Woodworking: Resin Expertise (3)

Congratulations! You are now a crafter, right along with the other 17,000+ players and their Alts.

The Process

Most of the items you will learn to craft can be listed for sale in the guild store. However, most of them either won't sell, or if they do they won't sell for very much and may even cost more to craft than you can sell them for. Thus, you will need to take some time to study what sells and what doesn't before you start crafting things to list. In addition, keep an eye on the cost of crafting an item versus what you can sell it for.

Now, let's talk about doing your daily crafting writs. Many players don't bother with this and end up missing out on the easiest source of income in the game. Each writ generates a set amount of gold and earns a reward coffer which contains 2 - 4 items related to that writ (e.g. a woodworking writ will get you wood and refining mats for woodworking items). In addition, these coffers may contain Survey Maps and Master Crafting Writs for that craft as well as actual items of an appropriate level for your character (also related to the writ's craft). All things considered, doing your daily writs is one of, if not the, most lucrative activities in the game.

Once you have maxed out the first passive in each crafting line and reached cp 160 you will be able to make roughly 5k gold per day plus, tens of thousands of gold worth of crafting materials. A single Chromium Grain can sell for 40k+ through the guild trader.
